Brad’s garden

What’s this dude so happy about? All of the time Brad’s spending outside with him while he works on his garden! Check out these insane peppers:

Isn’t this the cutest little corner garden ever?

Of course, tomatoes:

And herbs:

And a very happy Moses:

Carmen at the zoo

Carmen went to the zoo and, as all good photographers do, brought along her camera. :) Check out these insane colors… and all of the green!

Now these are my favorite. Even though these creatures are in cages, she did an incredible job of photographing them (and I think she used the cages perfectly in her composition):

Orchids at the Botanic Gardens

Jamie and I went to the US Botanic Gardens at the Capitol building yesterday afternoon. It’s funny how things can come together - earlier in the day I read this blog post on how, if you turn your lens around on your camera, it becomes a macro lens. The photographer who wrote it included pictures from her trip to the Botanic Gardens too! I was blown away, so when Jamie and I reached the orchids last night, we decided to try it out. Here are some of mine:

Now, check out Jamie’s! They’re INCREDIBLE!

It was so much fun to just try something new and sort of risky - it took a lot of practice, but we got the hang of making slight movements to get the focus in the right place. And who knew that turning your lens around could create these?!

the Tangled Garden

The Tangled Garden in Nova Scotia was one of my favorite places we visited on our trip. Using all local ingredients (many from the on-site gardens), the Tangled Garden creates amazing jellies and vinegars and provides an amazing aromatic experience to those who stop in. We bought five jellies and one vinegar and can’t wait to order more (you can buy online, too!). They have amazing photos on their site but I couldn’t help but take some more of the colorful, natural surroundings.

Sunrise in Nova Scotia

While abroad, I had the opportunity to take some photos with no people in them! Haha. It was really nice to take some time and take non-wedding and non-portrait photos. In the coming posts you’ll see some of the food shots I’m working on for our portfolio, a range of landscapes, and some appreciation for dive bars and vintage diners. For right now, here’s the sunrise we saw on a bay in Digby, NS.
